Christopher Miñán Fitzgerald’s labor-intensive sculptures and paintings transform deadwood trees into conceptually rich images. Life size representations of new perennial growth explore themes of ecological stewardship, perseverance, and restoration. Fitzgerald has exhibited throughout the United States and in Korea, Canada and Mexico, with guest presentations at the Austin Museum of Art, the University of Alberta, and Wells College in New York. In 2023, he was awarded the Texas Commission on the Arts grant and his first solo museum exhibition with the McAllen Museum of Art in McAllen, Texas. Fitzgerald grew up next to the Olympic National Park in Washington state, where he cultivated a deep admiration for alpine forests. He later studied at the Penn State School of Visual Arts (MFA 2012) and Yale University Summer School of Art (2008) with a residency at Museo di Capodimonte in Naples, Italy. Fitzgerald currently works and lives in the Austin-Pflugerville area with his wife, four children, and a beagle.
